In the summer of 2001 a law went into effect in California that provided for a new way for married couples to hold title to their home. "Community Property with Right of Survivorship" combines the tax advantages of "Community Property" with the probate-avoidance features of "Joint Tenancy." This manner of holding title is likely to be the best for many. Fortunately, it is fairly simple to make the change with the County Recorder. It is even easier in conjunction with a re-finance.
